This Big Stiffy series 1/2" ball nose router bit (1/4" radius ball cut) for CNC routers is excellent for juice grooves on cutting boards. Also great for radius accent work when carving signs on your CNC router.
Sometimes called a bull nose bit, wth a 1/4" shank, it is suited to remove large amounts of material in a single pass. The 'super-shear' blade design is designed to leave exceptionally clean cuts at higher feed rates.
The extended flute length of this 1/2 ball nose router bit allows you to get much deeper without witness marks.
Why is the 1/2 ball nose router bit called the Big Stiffy? 2 reasons. The first is, that this bit has extra mass, which absorbs vibration you'll find in other large CNC bits. The second reason is, that the overall bit length is shorter than the standard bit.
This little design modification keeps your bit stiffer during cuts, significantly reducing the chance of chatter, which gives you a 50% improvement in your surface finish.
This bit has a carbide blade brazed to a 4140 body.
